Inmarsat Partner Podcast with TrustComm
At the SATELLITE 2019 Conference in Washington, D.C. we sat down with Bob Roe, Chief Executive Officer at TrustComm, a premier small-business provider of secure satellite communication solutions to commercial and government organizations, to discuss its successful partnership with Inmarsat in the U.S. government market and other industry issues. Through the world’s most extensive portfolio of global narrowband and wideband, and via our ecosystem of best-of-breed wholesale channel partners such as TrustComm, we deliver robust, flexible and scalable alternatives for U.S. government customers to augment their satellite communications in both L-band and Ka-band, whenever needed.
During this video podcast, Mr. Roe explains that it is critical for TrustComm to not only choose the right solutions but have the right partners. Through their long-term relationship with Inmarsat they have found a trusted partner that is willing to work with them to build and customize solutions that meet their customers’ unique requirements. As part of developing these solutions, security is a top priority and the company implements policies and procedures that protect information, from identities to the actual information being sent and received. When asked about a memorable client deliverable, Mr. Roe shares a story about providing L-TAC (L-band Tactical Satellite) to a mobile radio user customer. He points out that when L-TAC was introduced a couple of years ago, converting UHF and VHF signals to L-band was a new concept; and more importantly, L-TAC enabled satellite-based, beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) comms-on-the-move. “It was extremely satisfying to watch our customer experience this for the very first time, as it not only met but exceeded their expectations.” Rounding out the discussion, Mr. Roe notes that when customers see that they are partnered with Inmarsat there is a high level of trust and credibility given that they will receive creative and innovative solutions to address their needs.
Inmarsat services are made available globally to the U.S. government thanks to our wholesale channel partners. By combining the expertise of our industry partners, who have been at the forefront of satellite communications-related technology and innovation for four decades, as well as input from our U.S. government customers, we continue to develop next-generation commercial services and technology built for users in all domains. What makes this partnership with Inmarsat successful?
Choosing the right solution and choosing who you work with is a critical decision for us, and one of the things I like most about working with Inmarsat, particularly with the government group, is that we’ve built up this trust with them over time, and we need to wrap value around the services for our customers, so to do that, and if we want Inmarsat to accommodate or customize, they are very willing to do that, more so than ever before.
What particular measures does your company take to protect information?
We do everything to make sure that we implement policies and procedures that protect our customers’ information, from identity to the actual information they’re trying to send or receive. We’ve managed the data systems that we use to bill our customers with to terminating that capability at the meeting point with Inmarsat has been protected from our perspective for a long time, long before it became a priority.
Can you share an example of one of your proudest deployments/contracts selling Inmarsat service?
An example that comes to mind is the use of LTAC in a demonstration conducted a couple of years ago when we first introduced the technology. Converting UHF and VHF signals to L-band was a very new concept, and the big advantage of LTAC, and one that we always knew was kind of the sweet spot for that technology, was the ability for customers to use it on the move. They no longer had to stop to communicate; they were able to keep moving. Watching that happen for the first time, when you knew it could be done but you’re watching them experience it for the first time, was very satisfying.
In three words, how would your government end-users describe their experience with your company?
Dependable – we deliver what we say we’re going to deliver to those customers. Relevant – we bring relevant technologies to solutions or relevant solutions to some of the challenges that our customers have. Trusted – the fact that we recognize that they recognize that we have a very unique relationship with Inmarsat in order to get the things done that need to be customized for them.
Any wishes you would like to share on Inmarsat’s 40-year anniversary?
Inmarsat is hiring smart people and they’re listening to them, and they’re really coming up with some great things. I see great things coming down the line for the company and for where this market is going. I just wish them a lot of success in doing that, and I’m hoping I’m a part of that for a few years to come.
