SATELLITE 2020: New level of innovation, collaboration and cooperation is required for modernizing military space

In a new Via Satellite contributed article, Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch reflects on her SATELLITE 2020 panel discussion, “Modernizing Military Space: How Global Defense Organizations are Preparing for the Future,” and the Space Force’s enterprise Vision for Satellite Communications (SATCOM).

Cowen-Hirsch reiterates the important role of commercial SATCOM (COMSATCOM) plays as part of an integrated space architecture, highlighting the technological advancements and innovation that the commercial industry provides. She also discusses the pending changes to streamline the government’s commercial SATCOM (COMSATCOM) acquisition processes to fulfill the Space Force vision.

“We must embrace our championing of space and an integrated architecture driven by “commercial first” principles and innovation that will grow more robust and “go faster” in experimenting and developing new SATCOM capabilities,” wrote Cowen-Hirsch.
